    present perfect
    we use the present perfect tense to talk about an event that started in the past but is still now relevant
    we form the present perfect using the present tense of have + a past participle

    when do we use the present perfect?
    1-a continuing action that started in the past
    ex: Sam has worked here for 7 years
    ex: I have known her for ages  (to talk  about someone that you have known for a very long time)
    => we use for with a period of time  ex(three Months)
    => we use since with a point in time ex:(Tuesday)
    ex: she has lived in Paris since 1991
    ex: I haven't played tennis since last summer
    2- to talk about something that happened in the past , but we do not say exactly when it happened
    ex: I have seen this film before
    * we often use the present perfect in this way for things that happened in the past , and that have a result now
    ex: I have seen this film before , I don't want to see it again now
    3-to describe a change over period of time
    ex: house prices have increased a lot
    ex: this restaurant has become very popular
    4-to describe accomplishments
    ex: doctors have discovered cures for many diseases
    ex: man has been to the moon
    5-this is the first time + present perfect
    =>can use it for something that you have not done before or a place where you have never been
    ex: this is the first time I have been here
    6-ever / never + present perfect
    ever(at any time)
    never(at no time)
    ex: have you ever met a famous person?
    7- we use just with the present perfect to talk about things that happened a short time before now
    ex:  -"is that a good book?
    -" I don't know , I have just started it "
    8-we use already with the present perfect to emphasize that something happened before now
    ex: I have already heard that story
    ex: Nicola:" is Sarah going to phone you later?"
    Robert :" no she has already phoned me "
    9-we use yet with a negative verb to say that something has not happened , but we think that it will happen
    ex: the post hasn't arrived yet ( the post hasn't arrived  , but it probably will arrive )
    * we use it in questions
    ex: have you paid the bill yet? (perhaps you haven't paid the bill , but you  are going to pay it soon)
    => we usually put yet at the end of a negative statement on question

    practice :
    1) complete  the sentences using the present perfect form of the verbs in brackets :
    don't take my plate away . .....................(not/finish) my meal .
    1-A: what's that book about ?
    B:I don't know ................ (not/read) it. 
    2- ................ (lose) my pen . can I borrow yours . please?
    3 -my father ................... (buy) an expensive new car .
    4 -A : .......................(book) a room here for tonight .
    B: yes madam , what ' s your name , please ?

    correction:

    6 -I 'm not sure what the problem with the car is  . it hasn't happened before.
    7 A; have you replied (you/reply) to that letter from the bank?
    B: no I haven't , but I'll  do it soon.

    2) complete the dialogues using the present perfect (I have seen) or past simple (I saw)
